Adult Education
Adults looking to find a way back into the workforce can take advantage of a wide array of offerings provided by the Northern Penobscot Tech Region III Adult Education Program.
Northern Penobscot Tech Region III serves 28 towns and offers a wide range of adult education classes throughout the school year. The primary focus of the programs is to provide training and retraining for entry-level positions. Hundreds of workers displaced due to layoffs and the closure of area businesses have recently been retrained, taking advantage of courses offered between semesters, summers, evenings and weekends.
The adult welding program is the first in the area to offer AWS (American Welding Society) certification. James Watters became the first State certified structural welder in shielded metal arc welding at Region III. Joel Stanley competed as a post secondary student in the Skills USA National competition for welding and won a bronze medal. He then competed for a chance to represent the USA in the international competition and won 1 st place in the Nation. He continued competing traveling to Helsinki, Finland as America’s best welder and returned ranking fifth in the world.
Region III Adult Education partners with area businesses offering computer technology courses, commercial truck driving, certified nursing and medication courses, boiler operation, AutoCAD, and many others. Region III Adult Education is flexible and will respond to the community by customizing programs to fit the needs of local businesses. The adult education program also hosts classes offered by Katahdin Region Higher Education Center, WCCC, EMCC, Penquis CAP, the State of Maine and other community education providers.
